writ of many modes // quick updates

Well folks, today is the first day of 'words', the 7 part blog series/event that was *supposed* to start yesterday. Hey, my youngest sister Lidia had a birthday party. . .I helped prepare for that. And then some of my amazing writers weren't ready to turn in their entries. . .and over all it wasn't a blog-ish sort of day. ;)

Quick updates before I say good-bye for a couple of weeks. I am now 21 years old. Thank you all so much for the birthday wishes! So what does 21 feel like? Much like 20 so far. . .it hasn't "sunk in" yet. But it's a bit frightening in the most thrilling way. Can't wait to see what adventures the Lord has in store this year! The cycle of crazy-trips-and-business is already starting. Um. I'm going to TEXAS in a few days!?!?!

Back to the birthday. It was a very simple, lazy, snowy {soo much of the fluffy stuff} photo-shooty, {the shire was gorgeous} family filled--bursting with good food--sort of day. Perfection. Truly lovely. Oh yes, and I told you Tim Tebow's autobiography was on the gift list, right? Already almost half way through. . .the guy is THAT inspiring. More on that in a later post. I'm also happily playing 'River Flows In You' {lovely, lovely, lovely} and swooning over this:

The stunningly gorgeous Claddagh ring my parents bought me. It's Celtic in origin (be still my heart) --and for me a sort of second purity ring. . .next to the one my dad gave me when I was 13. You may have read about it here.  According to Wikipedia:
The Claddagh's distinctive design features two hands clasping a heart, and usually surmounted by a crown. The elements of this symbol are often said to correspond to the qualities of love (the heart), friendship (the hands), and loyalty (the crown).
Claddagh rings may be used as friendship or relationship rings depending on the intention of wearer and, in the case of a gift, of the giver. There are three traditionally accepted ways of wearing the ring which may signal someone's relationship status:
  1. When worn on the right ring finger with the heart pointing to the fingertip, the wearer is free of any attachment.
  2. On the same finger but the other way round, with the heart pointing away from the fingertip, it suggests someone is romantically involved.
  3. When the ring is on the left hand wedding ring finger, it means the person is married or engaged.

*ahem* Mine is currently worn on the right ring finger with the heart pointing to the fingertip. ;) Go figure.

Since this is the prologue to 'words' {amid the jumble that is a random blog post} --let me bring something to your attention. I write differently at different times for different occasions/different people/different moods. ie: {all taken from my very own real writing sources.}

Blog mode: {might sound something like . .}

"Struggling through drifts of snow in heeled dress boots; wind swept cheeks; shivering between mad dashes of picture taking and snuggling deep within my coat. Short sleeves + snow. . .they don't mix well."

Novel mode: {might sound something like. . .}

The soft tread of feet.
"Madame, my lady. We meet again."
He stooped to enter, and Julia saw his face, the very same that watched her from the forests edge. It was covered in blood, dashes of scarlet across the broad forehead, seeping through his hair, over his cheeks--the mail on his chest a strange silverly rust. She killed the gasp in her throat; it would betray her feelings. Instead she sat still, emotionless, the moonlight playing in her eyes.

Facebook mode: {might sound something like. . .} note that Lidia and Maria are now 13 and 10.

Listening to my younger sisters talk about their qualifications for a future husband. . .

Lidia {9} : "he's going to be so striking you'll faint when you see him." (he is also going to be a rancher and wear pink ties.)

Maria {12} : "I don't care what my husbands like. . .but he has to be a Christian, home schooled, and handsome." Then as an after thought: ". . .well he doesn't need to be handsome. . .just cute."

Email-to-good-friend mode: {might sound something like. . .}
On the topic of the upcoming Les Miserables movie (scary stuff.)

"haha...girl, I was going to tell you about Colm ASAP! I found out a couple of days ago via Facebook. Is that AWESOME or is that AWESOME???? Hollywood isn't that far gone after all--and Colm, our Colm, is finally going to get the credit he deserves. B-) I mean, lets face it, he *is* a little old to play Valjean, though I still think he should have gotten the part. Ah well. The Bishop is a pretty boring character, and the part is small--but COLM'S IN THE MOVIE. That's scream-able. Lets get rid of Taylor Swift, and it might be o-k." ;)

{and to sum it all up}

"k, I have to run. Sorry this was a jumpy, crazy, boring kind of email. But hey, it's an EMAIL--and a long one! I've started using -- all the time. Love it. Looks way better then . . . :P I mean, a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do. I talk expressively and my writing is always decorated with dots and dashes." ^_^

But! keep reading--some very normal writers are in the lineup (at least, the claim is normal.) Have fun and keep the comments comin'. Cya later, readers! Tootle pip.

words.

*correction!* 'words' ends Feb. 22nd, not 23rd.

So excited to announce a couple things--first of all, i.am.going.to.the.San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival. :falls over: Yeah, a little excited, especially since the Lord orchestrated this whole thing so abruptly, so perfectly! My sister and I had been wanting to go for a couple of months now. . .but due to finances--you know, it just wasn't going to work. Now. . .a week long road trip with friends means (1. no plane tickets (2. it's actually affordable! He truly works in mysterious ways. I can hardly wait to {hopefully} meet some "famous" Christian film people (did someone say Courageous?) (!!) And it's amazing how many of my friends are going. Looking forward to adding some blogger ppls to the "in person" list. :)

Which brings about my other announcement: while I'm away, a special, first-time-on-this-blog guest posting event will take place. 'words'--articles written on a variety of topics by young men and woman with a passion for Christ! It's an honor to share their thoughts, insight, humor, and every day life with you. Grab the button and watch this spot February 16-22nd. Cup of coffee required for ultimate enjoyment.

You know your a fanatically obsessed, ridiculously CRAZY Les Misérables fan...

when this happens . . .

As I mentioned in my post here, my dad and I had a dinner date to celebrate my birthday. Earlier my parents explained that they were very sorry, but financially it just wouldn't work out for the whole family to go...and so dad was taking me. It would be a special time - reminiscent of my 13th birthday, when dad presented me with my promise ring.

Good. I was more then happy with the arrangement, and thought it the perfect finale for a wonderful 20th birthday.  *ahem* Apparently a few other people didn't share my sentiments. ;)

. . . I couldn't understand why the "few" errands dad and I made before dinner  took so very long . . .first our favorite organic market to pick up some cheese, then the library to drop overdue books off . . .oh, and can't forget to stop quickly to pick up a few extra essential things. I didn't mind it, really - but, um, dad? When can we eat? (most important thing on earth, after all. :P )  I already knew exactly what I would order at 'The Macaroni Grill.' Only, we never made it to the restaurant . . .

My mom called a couple of times when dad and I were out to remind us to be quiet when we walked into the house (we needed to drop off some perishable items,) since she "didn't feel well." As we drove down our street I saw a suspicious amount  of cars in our neighbors driveway. "Hm. Aren't they sick? Well...the house IS for sale. Must just be an open house." Yeah. That settled it. I should have been born with a different-- lighter--shade of hair color.

Now. Imagine walking into the house to quickly drop off some food . . . you walk around the corner, and there are 35 people standing in the living room! - I don't think I stopped smiling once all day.

My friend Christina (as Eponine) singing On My Own. She has a beautiful voice!

The costumes just blew me away. Singing was one thing - but check out all the detail in those AMAZING outfits?!?! Bravo, y'all!

The following set of pics are just pretty much classic.

Music. Dancing. Enjolras's waistcoat.

Ze lovely birthday cake - the sparklers were so unique and pretty!

Random birthday fun*~

Gifts!

:drum roll:

Singin' Phantom of the Opera and Les Miz songs around the piano.

Thank you all, my dear friends!!

Not only for thinking of me, but for your wonderful hearts, earnest smiles, and love as brothers and sisters in Christ. You all mean so, so much to me!!! - I can't begin to say how very touched and blessed I am by each and every one of you. ♥ ♥ God is good.
{special thanks to Christopher L. and Brandon for the photos!}

Lastly, a special shout-out to my amazing, EPIC, dear friend Flop (aka Alexandra ;) ) who SHOULD have been at the party, but couldn't make it. I love you so much, girly!

A "Charming" birthday*~

And so I am 20 years old. I remember thinking when I was around 11 that once I turned 17 my life would be flawlessly in order...for one thing I'd be mature, *ahem* and of course I'd have an unfailing relationship with the Lord. Welll...17 came, as did 18, 19, and now 20. Yet I am still only Michaela - ever learning, always growing, and very, very far from being the tiniest bit perfect. Its hard to imagine that I've finally left what the world dubs as the "teen years" behind. There is SO much to look forward to in the future!
"Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity."  1 Tim. 4:12

I had a delightful birthday, to say the least. Thank you, all my blogger friends, for leaving notes on my "hijacked" post. ;) (Love you, mom!) I've gotten dozens and dozens of birthday greetings that have so blessed me, encouraged me, made me laugh, brought on the tears...Praise the Lord for such special family and friends!

This, ladies and gentlemen, was my positively amazing, scrumptious, DELICIOUS birthday menu. Yup, I have excellent taste. Fried Penne - (we call it ziti - long story,)  is a secret recipe of my mom's, and my all-time-favorite dish of hers. It may sound odd, but fried pasta is out-of-this-world GOOD.
(Hey, just have to mention...even with all this springish weather we're having, I can never get tired of Josh Groban's 'O Holy Night.' Listening to it right now as I type up this post. ;) )
So yeah. And I never have traditional birthday cake...cheesecake, please! This time it was peanut butter-chocolate swirl, made my your's truly. Mmm...

Anyway...I enjoyed a wonderfully lazy day doing absolutely NOTHING. ;) Later (when dad was off of work,) came the regular birthday festivities - food and gifts.

...yet the very thrillingest part of celebrating 20 years came a few days later, at my Nonno and Nonna's home, where we combined all the F. February birthdays...me, Maria, and Lidia.

{left to right in both photos - Maria, 12, me, 20, Lidia, 9.}

One truly couldn't ask for a better day. . .Italian soccer (one of the only sports that doesn't bore me, :P) chocolate cupcakes, a stunning sunset, AND...

. . .Charming Charlie. A perfectly girly haven of color coordinated accessories. {the cameo, btw, is a necklace, - hard to tell in these photos!} Most of the store is rather tacky, but if you really look, there are treasures sprinkled here and there. And you can't beat $6 sales. o.O
 I think I'm addicted.

Now I'm looking forward to tomorrow afternoon, when my dad and I will go on a special date at 'The Macaroni Grill.' Soooo excited! On a different note, I couldn't get the above picture of me and Anna (Anna on the left,) to look clear...must have something to do with the editing I did. Gah. All well...to close this post -

Me and my daddy...and no, contrary to popular belief on facebook, (you know who you are! :P ) we were NOT miserable. Just tired. I guess you can call this our "serene" expression. ;)

Here's to another year of adventure, learning, and growing in HIM!*~
