Goodbye, Nick.

Today my little Nick was euthanized. My heart is so full of grief I can't think--everything is a blur. But I know I made the right decision. For awhile now he'd been having aggression issues, steadily getting worse and worse. Last night was awful--I don't want to get into detail, but if you can imagine one tiny 10 lb, 11 month old puppy holding an entire household hostage. . .it was that bad. So today I took my baby to the vet--where our worst fear was confirmed: Nick had a mental illness. Possibly seizures.

In those last moments he was so sweet--his adorable, beautiful, precious self, snuggling in my arms. Then I had to hand him over to the vet. . .had to say goodbye while he wore a muzzle. I'll never get his face out of my mind, so confused and scared.

Pray for me, please. This is so hard. Only edifying comments, if you don't mind--I don't need any "what ifs" or "could have been's". My family did a lot of praying together, have shed thousands of tears, and are in a state of shock. Yet we feel it was right. And it was. Jesus placed that special puppy in our home for a reason--He knew Nick's life was to be a short one. . .and He gave him a family that cherished him like a child. There is a hole our hearts. {special thanks to my dear friend Catherine for her support and prayer. I love you, girl!}

Anyhow, due to this, the "just because" giveaway (now closed,) winner will not be announced until
May 26th-27th.

  1. Oh,Michaela I'm so sorry.
I know how hard it can be to lose an animal, living on a farm we have lost a few animals over the years. About 2-3 years I got a dream come true...a pony of my own...but about a year later he unexpectedly died. After one day I was 'over it' life goes on (i'm not much for drama),mainy cause I'm used to animals dieing, but I still miss him very much. and last summer one of my sisters goats and a very sad accident and had to be put down (very dark day in our home.)

I'll be praying for ya girl,I know if my sisters dog died are family would be heart broken.
In my prayers girl. Keep up that positive additude.

  2. This brought tears to my eyes. When I had to put Buck down I had to put the muzzle on him because he wouldn't let anyone else touch him. Wrenched out my heart. Been praying and thinking about you a lot today. Hang in there.

  5. I'm so sorry. :( I've experienced losing an animal before, and although I am not the biggest animal lover it was hard on me. I will pray for you and your family.

  11. Oh Michaela....I'm so sorry. Just so sorry. I know how much it hurts. I've been there--had one kitty who literally died on my lap on the way to the vet. I wish we were closer so's I could give y'all hugs.

I have one piece of advice--get another puppy immejate. Really. I learned to do this with cats. Like, when the kitty who died on my lap died, I got new kittens the next day. I wasn't impressed with them and told Heather drearily that they were cute an' all, but I missed my Binxus Kitty so much and just wanted her back. Two days later, the new little guys had wrapped their fuzzy paws onto my heartstrings and brought back all the joy of kitty-ness. I still missed Binxus but it wasn't such sharp anguish and I began to enjoy the memory of her without all the pain.

I dunno, maybe it isn't practical, but if it's at all practical, getting another pet post-haste can do such wonders and heal us.

Regardless, I love y'all and you are in my prayers tonight!

  12. I'm so sorry to hear this Michaela. Our furry friends have a way of capturing our hearts that goes beyond explanation. When Sue and I got married, my dog Panda was middle-aged and a few years later my mother had to put our dog down due to old age. Even though I hadn't had Panda living with me for a few years, it still ripped at my heart.

You made a tough call but it sounds like there weren't any other good options. You gave him a great home and he was lucky to have you. We enjoy our pets as long as the Lord allows them to be a part of our lives and perhaps we leave a little bit of ourselves with them when they go. That's the nature of pet ownership though.

For now, you cry for awhile. Maybe a long while, and then at some point perhaps another 4 legged friend is looking for a good home, if and when you're ready.

    Blessings,

    Jim K.

  15. My dear sweet lady,
I am so incredibly sorry. I know how it is to loose a beloved pet. They are never "just animals" but completely and totally apart of the family. They take a place in your heart and hole onto it. I know you made the right decision for him. Even though I don't know you personally, I know from your posts and, even Facebook, what sort of young lady you are. I am sure that Nick had the best home possible and was surrounded by love and attention.
As an animal lover myself, I firmly believe in QUALITY of life versus quantity. Even in the short while you had him, he was loved by a multitude of people. God gives us critters in our lives to teach us about ourselves.
Hang in there. I will, as well a a whole bunch of others, will be praying for you and your family.
    Lots of love!

    Lindsey

  16. Oh Michaela, my heart goes out to you! I know how horribly and terribly it hurts to put a little furry friend to sleep....it seems impossible that life will or can go on without them. They become such an important and wonderful part of our lives. And I know Nick had a wonderful family to love him to pieces.

Cry it out. A lot. But don't dwell too much on today. I ended up having to write out all of what happened that day just to stop it from replaying over and over in my mind. Instead, remember all the wonderful times you had with Nick. God gave your little guy to you for a short but special time, and now he's in God's hands.

I've been praying for you and your family today. I love you guys. <3 You're in my prayers. Lots of ((hugs)). <3

  17. Michaela, I don't really know what to say, since I've never had a pet. But I know this must be awful, and I'm praying for you. {{{hugs}}} Love you girl!

  18. Ohhh Michaela, I hardly know what to say. Having never owned a pet myself, I cannot empathize with your situation, but I can sympathize. I remember how thrilled you were when you first bought Nick, and it has been such a joy "seeing" him grow up bit by bit through the window that is your blog. It breaks my heart to read of him being euthanized . . . I can't imagine how much more it must break yours. Know that my prayers are with you and your family in this hard time, dear. HE is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. ♥

    Love you,
    Elizabeth Rose

  19. I'm praying for you Michaela! I started crying when I was reading your post (and still am) ... it must be so hard for all of you. Cast all your cares on the Lord :) He sees 'even the sparrow that falls' ... so I know he understands your sorrow over Nick!

    Much love,

  20. Oh, Michaela I am so sorry to hear this! I have lost a number of pets over the years, and it is really difficult.

My cousins were actually in the same situation with their dog and were forced to make the same difficult decision.

I pray that you and your family will be comforted and encouraged by God Himself during this difficult time.

    Love in Christ,

  21. Dearest Michaela,
I don't comment here as much as I would like, but I am a regular reader here in this beautiful spot.

I just wanted to tell you that I am proud of you - blessed by the spirit of Christ shining through you.

I went through something similar with a very, very beloved horse, and although I don't know just how you feel, just as you cannot know just how I felt, I wanted to say that I know God is going to bring you through this with peace and joy. That was one of the hardest things I've ever done, but it was also one of the most beautiful... to see God working in such a mighty way, proving Himself faithful and supporting me as no other could every step of the way. He had a reason and a plan... and he revealed it to me in His perfect time. He always does.

Praying that you will find His strength and that peace that passes all understanding, dear.

    With love,
    --Kellie

But I wanted to let you all know--again--how much every single one of your prayers and notes have meant to me. I can't even put into words how blessed--how loved I feel!. . .even that sounds trivial. Because you have shown Jesus to me. :) Thank you so, so, so very much!! <3 <3
