"my heart will go on" // the bemoaning of a very old piano

I played THIS: the much mulled-over, much practiced, much re-practiced, [AND re-practiced] memorized, My Heart Will Go On - for a recent talent show. This is NOT the original video, since I'm not used to keyboards, and. . .I made a frightening face at one point that I can't seem to edit out. ;) Another attempt.

Forgive the sweat jacket. And note: my piano is about 100 years old or more and hasn't been tuned in 10 years. It sounds pretty decent, actually. ;) Also, several of the keys "stick," so I took the base up an octave. . .Oh, and for those who have asked, no, I do not play by ear. It's been several years, but I went to a Fine Arts School and Conservatory where I learned to read music and play classical piano. As you all know, my piano is my very greatest treasure, best friend, stress-eliminator. . .and My Heart Will Go On is a divine piece. Perfectly dramatic and soooo romantic. I hope you enjoy.*~

Currently I am eating a homemade cake-pop. Heaven. Yes, lots of healthy eating lately (but hey, only one cup of coffee today! :P ) I'm wearing my sloppiest-in-the-house-clothes while snatching bits of Mansfield Park. Wait now, don't fall over yet! It was all an accident, really. Michaela, reading a Jane Austen novel?  Mhm. What is a girl to do without good reading material? She grabs the closest thing in sight. . .in this case, Mansfield Park. And I LOVE it. So much in fact that I've asked a couple ppls for movie recommendations. :nervous laugh: What is the world coming too? o.O Never fear, I shall never stoop to reading P&P. I shall never stoop to liking Mr. Darcy. Because Mr. Thornton has stolen my heart. But that's a different topic. ;)

  6. pardon me while my heart shatters into a million pieces.
so, i kind of have a love/hate relationship with titanic, because it's such a beautiful story {with and without jack and rose} and it's so...inconceivable that a ship of that scope...or....so many lives could be lost like that. or...that they cool be lost at all. i don't know what it is.
maybe it's the tragedy of the film that shakes the listener, or maybe it's even the chord progressions that the composer used. but there's something about titanic, and this song, that breaks my heart, and it's not just the fact that jack dies in the end. or that titanic sinks. it's something else, and this explains why, only without words.
    beautiful, absolutely beautiful :))

  10. Jocee - I'm infamous for NOT replying to comments, :P - but I have too, because even though I've never seen the movie, (and probably never will,) the historical tragedy of the Titanic has always gripped my soul; its so heartrending, beautiful, terrible, awe inspiring...and My Heart Will Go On sums it up ANYWAY, with or without the movie. So. Totally agree. You said it, girl. :)

  11. Amazing Micheala I could listen to this forever.....
I love it on the piano more then on the violin. =)

That movie is sooooooo epic,I only seen it once with all the bad scenes skipped, but it still ad quite a bit of swearing, but such a romantic tradgedy. I hate that jack dies. Such a tragic day,so many lives lost, children, babies and adults.... Very sad....

Anyway thank you so much for sharing you play beautifully.

  12. That is so beautiful, Michaela! I have never seen it either (!) but the music is absolutely beautiful. Great job! ;) And the piano actually doesn't sound to bad for not having been tuned for a long time. :P

    Encore! ;)

  13. This is so beautiful. I've loved this song from the first time I heard it (I don't really care for the words, but that's beside the point). You did a great job. I heard this arrangement online first, and I love it.

  14. How is reading Pride and Prejudice stooping? You and your sister seem really biased against it. You cannot judge what you have not read-you know "Don't judge a book by its cover" :D I like it but can totally understand why someone might not-I just don't think it needs to be slammed just because you don't like it. It is quite well written. I am curious-do you dislike it because you feel like people stuff it down your throat-like you have to hear about it and people tell you to read it all the time? That biases me often. Oh, and I have read North and South, and I enjoyed it although I did not like Mr. Thorton at first anyway although if I read it again I expect I will like him better. I then watched the movie and liked it and loved Mr. Thorton because, well he is Richard Armitage-how could I not? I first saw the actor in the silly but fun BBC Robin Hood.

  15. * dreamy sigh * Ah, how I love the piano...and you play it so beautifully. I simply MUST have my own piano one day...Right now I have two old organs which I can kinda play, but it is NOT the same as a piano. one. bit.

So pretty, thanks for sharing :)

  16. That was so pretty! This is a touching piece. I love how you really brought out the climaxes. Hope you don't mind the suggestion, but I would try playing the bass softer, so the melody is very prominent. Something to try, anyway! ;) And your piano has a wonderful, warm tone. Doesn't sound too out of tune, and I'm a piano teacher, so I should be able to tell. :) Actually, those 100 year old uprights are some of the best pianos out there. The new ones are made cheaper, with materials of lower quality. So hang on to it, if fixed up well, could be worth a lot of money someday!

Thanks so much for sharing. I read your posts on 'piano love' :) and just want to hear you play. It was a real treat!

  17. haha! Yes! I thought I was the only one who liked Mansfield Park. Sure, it has it's problems....but overall I don't understand why so many people hate it :(

Sadly, though, from what I've heard, all of the movie versions are horrid.

My sister and I are teaching ourselves how to play piano. I actually looked up the sheet music for "My Heart Will Go On" last week! Of course, it's waaaaay to hard for me to do yet. :(

    You play it beautifully!

  18. Darling! I was SHOCKED to realize I hadn't commented yet, even though I had listened to this clip like, a million times! Eek...

You've not been telling me how awesome you play, girl! You are FANTASTIC!!!!!!!! OMS! Wow. That was absolutely GORGEOUS. I love-love-love-love that song to itty-bitty bits. Such a gorgeous, heart-breaking song. And you played it sooo exquisitely!

And the piano is not out of tune. Sheesh, you should have heard the old 100-year-old upright we had. THAT was bad. Seriously messed up my musical ear for a while...as in I had problems singing on-key for a long time because I was used to our piano. That bad. :-)

Anyway! You are AMAZING. Wowza. I am jealous of your amazingness. :-)
