'words' part 1 // Words To Strive For {guest post by Katie}

From my journal...

I've struggled before with words that were said to or about me, or negative self perceptions that I've had about myself. Words that tear down, that cause inner shame or hurt. Words that I don't measure up or that I'm not good enough. They come at me in the night or rise with dawn, bringing clouds of uncertainty and feelings of failure. Somehow I had to break free, to find relief from the negative thoughts I was believing about myself, of the words whispering in my ear. Thoughts that were harassing me constantly, never letting me out of their grip, always staring at me in ugly words, black and cold as marble.

Then I read this verse. Whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue or any praise, think on these things.

Whatsoever things are...

Of good report.

I would like to be a whatsoever.

Like this:
Whatsoever true: Katie. Whatsoever pure: Katie. Whatsoever just: Katie.

When reading this verse, I was thinking on whether these words could describe me. Could I be described as true? Could I be described as pure? These were the things to think on. These are the things that are indications of the fruit of the spirit, indications of Christ in me, shining out so others can identify the character of Christ.

This is what I am striving for. Letting these fruit of the spirit, these indications of Christ show so others can see it and know I am His.

Whatsoever is honest, lovely, pure, true, just, praiseworthy. What ever is these things...these are the things to think on. Not the negative untrue words. And in thinking on these things, life suddenly turns into something a little happier and a little sweeter. Because I'm thinking of pure, lovely, honest, true, just, praiseworthy things. Thinking of these things dispels the clouds of negativity and feelings of failure.

Whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue or any praise, think on these things.
