How to keep from having a broken heart

"To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal.

Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket- safe, dark, motionless, airless--it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable."

~ C.S. Lewis

  2. Oh, as one who'd heart has been bumped, bruised, and broken I know the dangers of having feelings towards anybody or anything. It is only through God's grace that I haven't shut myself away so that I am untouched by pain and grief, but also unreached by love and joy as well.

    What a quote! I love C.S. Lewis.

  3. Michaela,

I've read this quote by C.S. Lewis before, and I think that it's absolutely great!

Yes, to love is to be vulnerable. It also means taking a chance. It can be a wonderful but scary process.

  4. What an absolutely beautiful quote. Gives me shivers. The good kind. Like when I listen to certain music. Wow. That was amazing.
